The Almond Train — Enjoy South Australia’s Largest Range of Flavoured Almonds

As the final destination of our road trip, we went to Adelaide and stayed there for two days. On the first day, as we were searching on Google Maps for places to visit, The Almond Train popped up on the results with a rating of 4.4 stars. It took us a 40 min drive from the Adelaide city to reach the heart of McLaren Vale, where the converted 1920’s train carriage full of sweet treats has been residing for the last 30 years.

You can find gifts, crafts and old fashioned sweet treats including a wide range of flavoured almonds, lollies, chocolates, dried fruits, chutneys, jams snd honey. You can try out the flavoured almonds and buy what you like best. The lovely lady who was at the counter asked us to try the Chai flavoured almonds which has arrived as a new flavour. It was realy lovely and we ended up buying 2 packets of the Chai flavoured almonds. 😀

Towards the rear of the train is a little cafe named The Almond Carriage Cafe where you can taste local food.

As we entered the seating area, we noticed old-fashioned-train-style tables and seats. The table had a sheet of glass over it and underneath it was different kinds of bank notes, tickets and personal notes.

We ordered pasta and fish & chips. I must admit that it was the best fish & chips I have ever tasted in my life.

If you come across this lovely old train, do visit it and taste some almonds. Let us know what you thought about this 1920’s train carriage.

Cheers! 🙂
